Director of Finance

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance that will clear a path for Numida’s growth by establishing high-performing financial processes and systems that will drive measurable value.

The Director of Finance will be a member of the Management Team. The role is a combination of an operations role (managing accounting and financial control functions) and a strategy role (working with the Management Team to establish a financial strategy for the profitable, long-term growth of the business). The role is reserved for someone who has 5+ years of experience in accounting management and finance, including experience in a financial institution.    

Your ResponsibilitIes

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting against budget

  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash

  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and Procedures

  • Oversee the bookkeeping function

  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including income tax reporting and withholding payments (PAYE, WHT, NSSF), and that payments are remitted on time

  • Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the external auditors

  • Lead the financial due diligence process with prospective investors to ensure their complete understanding of the business finances

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure

Financial Strategy

  • Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation, and prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Co-CEOs

  • Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts

  • Oversee the design and implementation of processes that provide business managers with timely financial data to make decisions and monitor performance

  • Ensure the development of strong finance capability (an ability to translate business decisions into numbers/financial metrics and to understand the implications for financial performance) across the Company

  • Support the company in accessing the capital needed to thrive and advise on the optimal mix of capital between equity and debt

Risk Management

  • Ensure that sound risk management models and measurement methodologies of risk reporting and controls are in place for the quantification and evaluation of risks

  • Continuously monitor risk-taking activities and aggregate risk exposures to ensure they are in line with the organization’s financial position and plans

  • Develop, monitor and continuously enhance a Credit Reporting & Monitoring framework which meets the requirements of various internal & external stakeholders

  • Supervise and ensure timely and accurate delivery of Credit Risk reports. Interpret the information with the support of the Credit Team and suggest actions for consideration by the Management Team to drive improvements in credit performance.

  • Support decision-making pertaining to loan product pricing with analytical models

  • Negotiate with Bank or investors for loans, lines of credit or other financial services as required and appropriate

Payroll Preparation and Administration

  • Oversee all payroll functions to ensure that employees are accurate and paid on time

  • Negotiate and manage the employee insurance and benefits plans

  • Issue annual Statements of Remuneration as required

Information Technology

  • Evaluate the need for new technology to meet the organization's financial data processing, control, and reporting requirements

  • Advise on appropriate technology that meets the organization's information requirements and financial resources

Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business

    Management/Administration

  • CPA, ACCA, CFA or MBA designation is an asset

  • 5+ years of experience of progressive responsibility in accounting and finance, with at least 2 years of management experience (experience in FinTech an asset)

  • Knowledge and background in GAAP, including the presentation and reporting of GAAP based financial reports

  • Experience in credit including strong experience with loan accounting

  • Strong strategic, finance skill set evidenced by the ability to analyze business models, forecast financing needs and raise capital at attractive rates

  • Strong financial modelling, budgeting, valuation, financial analysis experience

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to both finance professionals and non-specialists

  • Experience with the consolidation of multiple foreign entities, with multi-currency accounting and complex inter-company transactions

  • Familiarity with foreign exchange risks and mitigants

  • Familiarity with capital markets strategies
